Novell - NDPS Console error and beeping

Server: SOMFS2 (NetWare 6.0)

Error: Periodic beep from console associated with NDPSM error:
"Error 156 occurred while creating
doc file
Users1/NDPS/43FC4DA6.PSM/45ABAE4D.PA/29EB.1
"

Cause: Associated with deletion of queue Q_ACC_G1 on previous day with two jobs in it, required as the newly created printer agent (PA_ACC_G1) wasn’t servicing the queue. New agent was created to service the new HP 2015DN laserjet printer.

Folder SOMFS2users1:NDPS holds the jobs to be printed by NDPS, with a sub-folder for each printer agent. Location of this ’spool’ directory was chosen by the system itself and isn’t changeable (unknown why USERS1 volume was chosen).

Resolution:

  1. At the server console, unload the HP Gateway, unload NDPS manager.
  2. Reload the manager (NDPSM manager_sml.som.staff.hw)

Printing - Economics First Floor Printer

Former laser printer HP 4100N was removed, replaced by HP P2015DN.

IP:   137.195.80.224

DNS: som-eco-f1.som.hw.ac.uk

Printer Agent PA_ECO_F1 was deleted and also removed from manager_sml.som.hw.ac.uk

The agent was recreated with drivers for HP P2015DN laser printer, which supports duplex printing. ÂÂ

The queue Q_ECO_F1 was added under ‘Jobs v’ … ‘Spooling Configuration’…’Service Jobs from NetWare Queue’…’Add’.

Printing - Q_ACC_G1

Problem: Massive paper jam in HP 4100 servicing queue Q_ACC_G1. Alipa removing for repair.

Jobs re-routed to upstairs printer.
Details:

  1. NWAdmin - locate printer agent (PA_ACC_F1) and then ‘Jobs v’ … then ‘Spooling Configuration’ to add or remove service queues. Queue Q_ACC_G1 was added.
  2. Likewise in printer agent PA_ACC_G1 - which services the faulty printer - the NetWare queue Q_ACC_G1 was removed, to avoid two printer agents servicing the same queue.

Problem:

Next day, observed that jobs were still in Q_ACC_G1 despite this being serviced by the PA of the upstairs printer.

In the printer agent, clicking on ‘Jobs v’ and the NetWare queues serviced, then ’status’ of each queue revealed the lower floor printer queue was not being service. Errors appeared on SOMFS2 console to say an error had occured with the agent trying to attach to the queue.

Resolution:

Recreated queue Q_ACC_G1
